It bit!!! But what is it?
From mid July to mid September it could just be anything. All kinds of salmon are now on their way to their spawning grounds and the steelheads are following suit. During this time, simply everything could be taking your fly. In July, the chinook are still very numerous followed by the main run of the sockeye from late July to late August. At the same time, the first coho salmon are coming in. And just to add some diversity some pink and some chum salmon join the party.
Who is fighting with me now? This is the question to ask with every bite. Some of the fish give away the secret when they strike like the steelheads – mostly when the brake on your reel is howling loudly.
This is the high season for sockey salmon. Spend wonderful days fishing for all species of pacific salmon. Due to the Skeena rivers huge drainage area the distances to the spawnings grounds the fish have to reach are so diverse that all kinds of salmon are in the river simultaneously. This happens only in this huge river system.
There is a good reason for the Skeena system with its tributaries to have the reputation for being the worlds best salmon and steelhead fishing grounds. Experience this fantastic fishery with us and enjoy summer in the wild and wonderful nature of Canada.
