The club was founded by Günter Heufler, Willi Schmidt, Christopher Avi and Harry Birkl, all of which are fanatic fly fishers. The steelhead trout was threatened by extinction and had gotten very rare. We truly love this fish, for there is no bigger fighter in the northern fresh waters.
Our club's home is at the Skeena Salmon Lodge, Willi Schmidt's home and we are working on ideas to make more out of this club. We want to fight – along with our club members - to protect this fish and its spawning grounds as well as possible so that many generations to come can enjoy fly fishing for this majestic fish (catch and release). Soon, you will be able to support our club and its activities in favour the steelhead. We shall inform you in time.
In the meantime, the steelhead-population in the Skeena river has clearly improved, not lastly thanks to the Canadian fishing authorities that enacted a strict ban on removing any steelhead trouts. We strongly hope that this ban will not be lifted again. It's always great to go angling with like-minded people but it is even greater to share the excitement about a caught steelhead.
We cordially thank our hosts of the Skeena Salmon Lodge and of course Willi Schmidt who made it all possible. You will find more information on our Homepage under the heading “salmonids”.
